The Kinder Haus Microschool is a faith based non-traditional kindergarten program serving New Braunfels, Texas, and the surrounding area. The program is open to kids who will be ages 5 or 6 as of August 1. Following a homeschooling hybrid approach, students will attend class 2 days a week and will participate in at-home learning activities 2 days a week which will be provided by the teacher.
An optional fifth day of learning can be added as a STEM-based Enrichment Day with the STEAM Schoolhouse. Enrichment days are open to students in Kindergarten - 8th grades. But don't worry - your child's kindergarten teacher will be there with them along with another certified teacher. This one-room schoolhouse approach provides many opportunities for interpersonal skills and collaboration in addition to all the STEAM fun!
CURRICULUM
Kindergarten should be a time of joyful learning as students are introduced to academics. The Kinder Haus uses a customized curriculum that provides students with age appropriate and hands-on learning opportunities to make learning fun. Choosing to customize the curriculum (instead of choosing an all-in-one curriculum) takes more time, but it is worth every minute as we are able to choose the best learning resources for your child.
Thematic units based on science and social studies topics make up the foundation of the curriculum. Each unit is filled with children's literature and interactive learning that guides students through the exploration of each topic. Partnered with a strong language arts and math program, students will receive instruction in all core academic areas.
Our reading curriculum focuses on developing strong phonemic and phonological awareness to help students as they learn to read. In addition to phonics, students will also learn sight words and high-frequency words that will help them improve their reading fluency. This combination allows students to find success on their journey to becoming a readers. Writing instruction will include both handwriting and learning to take the ideas from our head and put them into written form.
The math curriculum is focused on helping students build a strong number sense foundation. Students will also be exposed to introductory skills in geometry, measurement, and basic operations - all in an age-appropriate way, of course!
Our Bible curriculum is based on The Jesus Storybook by Sally Loyd-Jones. The Jesus Storybook tells that wonderful story beneath all the stories. The story of how God loves His children and comes to rescue them. This book keeps Jesus, the rescuer, at the center of every story so that even in the Old Testament, kids learn how the story points to Jesus.
This cross-curricular approach to learning allows students to see how all academic subjects work together as the foundation of lifelong learning. If you have any questions about the curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact us.
STAFF
The Kinderhaus homeschool hybrid program is a unique blend of classroom and homeschooling learning. Our staff has experience in both realms allowing them to not only teach your child, but also serve as a resource for you and at-home learning days.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
The Kinder Haus program is intentionally designed to be different from the traditional school setting. Shorter days, the hybrid homeschooling approach, and small class sizes are just a few of the differences.
Class size is limited to 12 students. This small size allows for a combination of whole group, small group, and individualized instruction. It also allows for deeper connections to be made between peers.
Learning doesn't stop when you leave the classroom. That's why we approach education as a "team sport." Together, teachers and families, guide learning opportunities in the home, in the classroom, and in the community. At-home learning materials will be provided by the teacher so that home learning reinforces the skills and concepts taught in class. At-home learning will not need a full learning day. Activities sent home for learning will generally take only an hour or two. This also means that you will not need to purchase curriculum or additional homeschooling resources for at-home learning days unless you want to teach an elective-style class like Spanish.
We value life outside of school and believe that children should have plenty of time for family, play, church, other activities, and rest!
